One of my Strawberry plant got Kutu Daun (aphid) and some ants are taking advantage of this tending to farm the aphid honey pots. If not treated it will weaken this plant and worst could cause virus or fungal infection. I had to get rid of it quick.

Isolate the plant from the rest and at first I try to get rid of the ants by using this ants bait that could eliminate the ants. But it dont seems to work, because they are busy harvesting those honey pots and show no interest to my bait.

For a quick action, decide to clip off two of the most affected leaves and discard them to kill majority of the aphids. The remaining leaves are not that bad, but I must do something to stop recurring.

Leaves cut and sprayed with organic pest repellent, if needed I can make do with soap solution. Since I had this spray at hand, just try it out first before proceeding to the next step.

I had to isolate this plant, to ensure those aphid dont fly off or hop off to nearest safe place and will just makes things worst. Luckily the plants are all in individual pots, which makes it easy to do this.

One of the growbed that was full of mint redo and clean all the roots out, this growbed going to be the next area where Strawberry going to be in.

All the mint were cut last week, today the roots are removed. If not removed they will decay and cause the system to swing towards acidic, it could be a good thing for Strawberry but I feel its best to start from a known baseline.

The single parent plant from this ornamental set is removed and potted, I takes my chances by cutting the runners from the parent and letting them grow on their own. I will know tomorrow how many survive being independent. Six in all, these are all new plants.

Potted the parent plant in 6 inch net pot and it will be replanted into a bigger growbed.

I scoop some LECA along with the roots so that it will experience less of a shock, topping up with LECA from matured growbed.

Growbed is flooded by using a taller extender, this makes it easier for getting out the roots and level the LECA.

This parent plant placed in a central position of this growbed so that it can start to colonized this entire growbed with runners. Im giving it ample space to reproduce.

The plant is raised from LECA level to give it good drainage, Ill monitor it closely this next couple of days to ensure it survive the replanting. I try not to give any shade and let it expose to full sun and see what happen.

So far this trial of planting Strawberry looks promising, until it can produce fruit only then well know whether it is successful or not.

It was done here and almost three weeks has pass for this cutting, and at last it show new growth.... walla.. it survive.. well at least until today.

Small leaf has emerges and hope it grow this next few weeks.

Lateral crown are plant growth at base of Strawberry plants, some strawberry plants will grow these naturally and other variety will produce these if runners are pruned.

From my trial, these lateral crown emerge about two to three months after I planted runners to pots.

Like runners, these lateral crown are genetically same as the parent plant and this is one way of propagating strawberry plant quickly.

However unlike runners, where once independent they can be easily separated from parent plant by cutting the stolon.

In the case of lateral crown, the entire strawberry plant cluster and the crowns are separated from parent rhizomes by carefully cutting it off. This process takes practice and could kill the mother plant if not done correctly.

It is good to have more than one crown in a pot, this will maximized the growing area and a normal practice for strawberry grower to do.

That aphid infested plant has to be sacrifice to ensure situation contained. I decide to re-pot and trimmed all leaves from this plant.

The black aphid reappear, but the ants are no more around.

I had to cut all the leaves and get rid all this aphid, need to visit the local flower nursery to find more potent organic spray to ensure they dont reoccur.

They are even in the crown area.

Trimmed and re-pot and will monitor closely.

Hope this plant survived the ordeal.

After I planted the runner cutting on 4th Nov, the sun came in full heat. few of the leaves dying and to save the plant I cut most of the leaves and left only two.

If it survive these next few days then great.

To get healthy Strawberry plants they requires strong roots, to get this the plant need to direct most of  its energy toward root growth. During first year of planting dont let the plant fruit.

All these flowers need to go, and its best to clip them off at earlier stage that this.

Runners like these above also has to go.

So flower buds has to be clipped.

All clipped so that the plants can concentrate getting good roots.

Runners clip to prevent new plants, I reserve two original plants to produce runners for propagating. Those plants are the base stock for my Strawberry plants.

I will let the plants grow for this next few months towards January or March then Ill trim all leaves to get new growth.
