diy aquaponics tank | The Plants Talk seminar by Dennerle

0

diy aquaponics tank

In my personal opinion, the seminar was disappointing. It is more toward new product launch rather than plant related talk as the title describe. There are no talk about Difference between emmerse and submerse plants, New plant and their requirement, nor Nano plants.

The entire seminar was promoting the Dennerle product and 7 golden rules. However, there are couples of interesting points:

  1. Heating cable, my understanding from other hobbyist experiment across the world that there is no significant growth different between with or without heating cable. Heating cable suppose to circulate the water in the substrate as warm water will move up. This might be the reason Dennerle do not dose macro fertilizer.

  2. Dennerle system relied heavily on substrate no water column macro fertilizer dosing.

  3. Dennerle reduced the blue spectrum from their light bulb. This is the opposite of ADA light bulb. Who is correct?

  4. It was mention that plant is taking a break during photo period. Thus Dennerle suggest of siesta (5 ON – 4 OFF – 5 ON). Did plant take a break?

  5. Rule of thumb for CO2 injection is (tank volume in liter)/10 = bubble per minute. Just imagine for 3ftx1.5ftx1.5ft tank about 180 liters so according the formula 180/10 = 18 bubble per minutes. There is no way you can get 25 – 30 ppm with this amount of CO2 unless he is talking about big giant bubble.

diy aquaponics plants | Racking for Strawberry Plants

0

diy aquaponics plants

Run out of space for new strawberry runners, October to February are the months where these plants produce lots of runners. Decide to make a rack for these new plants and maybe they can grow better before figuring what to do next.
Above container can hole about 50 pots of new strawberry plants, I will need to get same size pots to get them easily arranged.
Rack above was from surplus material that I have and reassemble to make a 3 shelf rack and I use the car boot plastic tray to hold those pots. Water added to tray and some nutrient to ensure those plants can survive. This is required since I am planting the runners without parental stolon.

diy aquaponics greenhouse | Initial Sketch

0

diy aquaponics greenhouse

Time for new scape on my long abandon 2ft tank. Above is my simple sketch. The scape is about how tree still survive after the logging. It shows new braches and leaves are growing from cut area. It show how resilient nature is.

At this moment my plants selection are:

  1. Cryptocoryne wendtii var. green

  2. Echinodorus tenellus

  3. Eleocharis parvula (Dwarf hairgrass)

  4. Eleocharis vivipara

  5. Glossostigma elatinoides

  6. Microsorum pteropus (Java fern)

  7. Rotala sp green

  8. Rotala sp red

  9. Vesicularia montagnei (Xmass moss)

Im Curently on the process of gathering material. It may not even materialize if I cannot get the right wood, which is the main focus point. There is not much wood selection at local fish shop in this country

diy small indoor aquaponics | Chili Plants showing recovery

0

diy small indoor aquaponics

Was very hot these last few weeks and it affect even aquaponics plants, especially the newly planted seedlings.

Few Chili plants that I transplanted to the Ornamental set was dying after the move and I had to act fast before its too late.

I have few spare nettings from previous project and they are put to give some shade to the chili plants. Slowly there is sign of recovery and during peak daylight it manage to reduce the intense heat giving time for the seedling to grow.

Some light drizzle this last day or two do help in cooling down the set and reduce overall tenmperature during the day. Still few weeks to go and I hope they survive to give me red hot chili.

easy diy aquaponics system | Fresh Tilapia Batch

0

easy diy aquaponics system

Another batch bought from nearby nurseries fresh stocking, they are red tilapia fingerlings about 2" in length and I paid RM 20.00 (US $ 4.50) for a hundred.

As usual for any new fish going into the tank, let them float in the bag for 15 to 30 minutes, for the water temperature matching and then they can be let loose in the new place.

One hundred tilapia running around in the new surrounding, and will only feed them tomorrow after they stabilized.

diy aquaponics floating raft | Chilli Plants Updates

0

diy aquaponics floating raft

Chillies plant in the gutter growbed are producing chillies. Monitoring them closely for fungal infection.

Chillies plants are prone to fungal wilt, I had lost many chilli plants due to this. At the moment I do not use any spray to combat this problem, looks like I had to start now.

diy aquaponics outdoor | Fresh Seedling For The Growbed

0

diy aquaponics outdoor

Got few of these seedling from the weekend market in Pekan, Pahang at a bargain and can save me lot of trouble of sowing them.
Four chili plants and four Salad Eggplant, the chili plant is of two different variety and the eggplant is the type that can be eaten raw as a salad or "ulam" as we call it here.
Put them in individual pots so that I can manage it easily if needed.
Then place them in the growbed so that it can get over the transplanting shock and start to grow, these will need to be spaced once they have shown sign of positive growth.
